Nightmare at a Baby Shower: Kennington Woman's Horrifying Experience with Faulty TikTok Shapewear
14 August 2025
Guess what? A lady, Molly-May Watson from Kennington, right here in south London, had a bit of a nightmare with some shapewear she snagged off TikTok for just eight quid. She got these Spanx-like shorts last May, and boy oh boy, did things get shaky when she wore them for the first time at her sister's baby shower this July. Can you believe, she thought a bee had zapped her right in the thigh because of the burning sensation? Wild, right?
So, she dashes to the loo to see what's up cause it felt like the shorts were practically grilling her skin! Had to literally tear them off and guess what? The darn things had melted into her poor skin. Ends up at St Thomas' Hospital the next day and the doc tells her she might carry those nasty scars for life. Talk about a bad deal!
When she reached out to TikTok Shop to complain, guess the best they did? A measly ten pound coupon. Talk about adding insult to injury! From what Molly-May said, she kinda felt like she was getting stung twice. First by the shorts, then by the lousy compensation.
Worse yet, this one-off wear before the party had been the only test drive for the shorts, and she'd thought they were all good. But after peeling them off her skin and hobbling through the rest of the shower, by the next day, she had no choice but to hit A&E, because the pain just went bananas!
At the hospital, they were a bit boggled – didn’t know if it was the heat or some wonky chemical reaction that turned her shorts into a skin-fryer. And now? She can't even track down the seller — smells fishy, right? Like maybe they weren't aboveboard to begin with.
Molly-May's been pretty loud about it since, telling folks at work and all her pals, sharing the gruesome pics, ringing TikTok up to complain. But all she got back was, "Sure, here's your refund, and take this coupon." No thank you, she's not buying - literally, she’s done with those budget online deals. And now? She's stuck working from home, nursing the scars that are just beginning to leave their mark.
Oh, and TikTok did yank that seller off their site last June. But honestly, is chopping a dodgy seller enough? A little too late for poor Molly-May, don't you think? Now she's all about warning everyone: street vendors, budget bazars, no-go. Just not worth the burn or the hassle. And as for TikTok, they say they sorted it out with some compensation – if you can call a tenner compensation, that is.
