Embracing Radio: A Chance Encounter
For Mani Millss, radio wasn't just a career choice, it kind of just happened to her. Born and bred in Washington, DC, she kicked off her college life on a scholarship at South Carolina State University back in 2009. But guess what? Life had other plans.
The Balancing Act of Life
Becoming a mom young threw a wrench into her college dreams, and juggling diapers with books? Yeah, that got pretty wild, so by 2013, she waved goodbye to academia and dove into the corporate world in South Carolina. But deep down? She felt she was missing out on something big, something more meaningful.
A Bold Leap into Radio
Flash forward to 2017, and Mani's like, 'Enough is enough!' She ditches the corporate gig and lands a part-time hustle at iHeartMedia's 100.1 The Beat in Columbia, and believe it or not, with zero radio experience! Just armed with heaps of passion and some serious drive. Within no time, bam! She's rocking a full-time gig and even nabbed the Music Director title at Nashville’s 101.1 The Beat (WUBT). They even bumped her up, relocated her and just like that, her career sky-rocketed.
Making Waves Across the Nation
Now, not only does she run the show during the midday slot in Nashville, but she’s also spreading her vibes all the way to Atlanta and Milwaukee, hopping on the mic at stations across the nation whenever needed.
The Start of Something New
So, how did this radio gig start, you ask? Well, it wasn't even her initial plan. It’s like the universe just handed it to her. Back when she was hosting community gigs - you know, poetry slams, fashion shows, and the like - she just grabbed the mic one day and didn’t let go. People started recognizing her voice, and just like that, she’s on the air.
Giving Back to the Community
Fast-forward to now, and Mani's all about using radio not just to chat but to connect. That means a lot to her.
Community-Focused Initiatives
When she’s not on air, she’s all about lifting others up. Just this Mother's Day, she threw an event with some pretty cool guests like Taj George from SWV, and she's pushing forward with “The Beat Connect”, spotlighting local talents and giving back every chance she gets. She’s all about creating those big-hearted, community-fueling moments.
Preparation Meets Passion
Show prep? Mani keeps it 100. She’s stepped away from just dishing out gossip; it’s all about staying relevant but meaningful. She digs through social media, blogs, and the news to keep her shows fresh and impactful, dropping those liners and ...
